1. Mail In submissions:
To qualify all submissions must include a bound copy of the screenplay, a completed entry form, a signed Submission Release Agreement and appropriate payment.
Submissions must have the entrant's name as well as the screenplay title on the cover page and/or title page. Entries must be submitted in standard screenplay form.
Entries must be mailed, postpaid, to: Script Showcase, 6505 Green Valley Circle, Unit 313, Culver City, CA. 90230, USA.
Entries must be postmarked by December 01, 2011. Walk in entries will not be accepted.
2. Electronic submissions:
To qualify, an electronic copy of your screenplay in Adobe PDF, Wordperfect, Microsoft Word, Movie Magic Screenwriter, Rich Text, Text, Scriptware or Final Draft format must be uploaded to Script-Showcase.com via the entry form.
Entrant must acknowledge agreement to competition terms by checking the box located on the electronic submission form, provide a valid charge card for appropriate payment and upload the screenplay no later than midnight (PST) December 01, 2011.
3. All Submissions:
Multiple submissions are accepted.
All writers must be over 18 years of age.
Submissions must be an original work of the applicant and not based, in whole or part, on another author's work and the entrant hereby asserts that nothing in the submission entry infringes on any copyrights or trademarks, or violates any person's rights of privacy or publicity.
Submissions may not be under option at the time of entry nor at the time the material is chosen as a finalist or winner. If said script is sold or optioned during the judging period, the writer will automatically be disqualified.
Feature length screenplays of any genre, written in English, are accepted.
The entrant's name, as well as the screenplay title must be on the screenplay title page, or front cover.
Mail-in submissions will receive confirmation of receipt of their submission by email. All electronic submissions will receive an automatic receipt.
It is your responsibility to copyright your screenplay prior to submission and we recommend that you do so.
Under no circumstances will substitutions of either corrected pages or new drafts of the entry screenplay be made or accepted.
Judging will consist of two elimination rounds, a quarter final round, a semi final round and a final round. Three winners will be chosen from the finals.
Screenplays will not be returned. Please do not send originals.
Script Showcase assumes no responsibility, if for any reason, the submitted screenplay cannot be read by the judges, including damage sustained in mailing or for lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries.
4. Fees:
Early mail-in submissions must be postmarked no later than September 30, 2011. The early submission fee is $40.00 USD.
Standard mail-in submissions must be postmarked no later than December 01, 2011. The standard submission fee is $50.00 USD.
For each additional screenplay submitted, the fee will be $40.00 USD, even if it is included with a standard submission.
All mail-in submissions must be postmarked no later than December 01, 2011.
Electronic submissions must be submitted and received through the Electronic Submission Form no later than midnight (Pacific Coast Time) on December 01, 2011.
5. Eligibility:
This contest is open to anyone who is 18 years of age or older as of the beginning date of this contest. 6. Judging:
Judging will be done on an anonymous basis. All received entries will have the author's name removed and be assigned an anonymous number before being assigned to the judges for scoring. Judging will be conducted in two separate elimination rounds, plus a Quarter Final, a Semi Final and a Final round. The submissions receiving the top two hundred (200) scores will proceed to the second elimination round and scored based upon the same judging criteria as round one.
Thirty two (32) Quarter Finalists will be chosen from the second elimination round.
Sixteen (16) Semi Finalists will be chosen from the Quarter Finalists.
Eight (8) Finalists will be chosen from the Semi Finalists.
Three (3) Winners will be chosen from the Finalists.
Judging in all the rounds will be based upon the following standard screenplay criteria:
Format and Style
Story and Structure
Originality and Appeal
Characterization and Dialogue
In the case of a tie, the submission with the highest combined score in all the rounds of judging, to that point, will win. If the combined scores are equal, the submission with the highest score in any single category shall be the winner. If the highest scores in any single category are the same in both submissions then the Judges shall compare the tied submissions solely against each other to determine a winner.
7. Prizes:
The Script Showcase Screenwriting Competition winners shall consist of three (3) Winners and five (5) Finalists. The three Winners shall receive the following prizes:
- $300 cash!
- Submission to 60 participating production companies, agencies and management companies!
- Prizes from SellaScript.com: FREE Total Script Express e-blast to over 3,000 industry professionals. One year FREE listing in the Script Marketplace. Placement in one issue of the Hollywood Bugle. Six months access to the Writers Rolodex.
- Exposure on the Script Showcase Screenwriting Competition website!
Each of the five Finalists will receive the following prizes:
- Prizes from SellaScript.com: One year FREE listing in the Script Marketplace. Placement in one issue of the Hollywood Bugle. Six months access to the Writers Rolodex.
- Prizes from ScriptDelivery.net: A FREE Script Delivery e-blast to over 3,000 industry professionals.
- Exposure on the Script Showcase Screenwriting Competition website!
8. Terms And Conditions Of Participation:
All three winners will be required to sign and return a hard copy of the Script Showcase Screenwriting Competition Submission Agreement And Release within 21 days of notification of their winner's status. In the event of non-compliance with these requirements, the winner's entry will be disqualified and the submission with the next highest score shall be considered the winner.
Submissions remain the property of the entrants; however, by entering, entrants also agree to permit Script Showcase to use their entries, winner's name and likeness for purposes of advertising and promotion without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law, in perpetuity in all markets and mediums.
9. Publication Of Winners:
After the contest deadline has passed, the winners will be announced on the Script Showcase website in the following order:
Quarter Finalists - by Monday, February 20, 2012
Semi Finalists - by Thursday, March 01, 2012
Finalists - by Thursday, March 15, 2012
Final Three Winners - by Sunday, April 01, 2012
By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules, and the decisions of Script Showcase, which shall be final in all respects.
